Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to your most common questions about our handknitted garments, shipping and care.

What is your returns policy?

“If your knit arrives and it’s not quite right, I’m here to help. Any unworn, as-new items can be returned within 28 days. Because each piece is made with care, I always encourage exchanges or small adaptations first where possible, especially if the fit isn’t quite right.”

What is the wait time for a made-to-order garment?

"Unless otherwise stated each heirloom-quality piece is knitted by hand to order in our Perthshire studio. Please allow up to 10 days for smaller knits (headbands, gloves and hats) 2 -4 weeks for cowls and larger scarfs and 2-3 months for made-to-measure sweaters."

Do you offer shipping outside of Scotland?

“Shipping within the UK is charged at a flat rate of £4.99, orders over £100 receive free shipping. For International Orders shipping is calculated by weight at check out, orders over £250 receive free shipping.

How should I wash and care for my handknitted woolens?

"Wool is a resilient, natural fiber that requires gentle care. We recommend hand washing in lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Do not wring or tumble dry; instead, roll in a towel and dry flat away from direct heat."

How and where are the garments made?

“Every garment is handknitted by our creator, Fiona, in rural Perthshire, Scotland. Each piece is made slowly and intentionally, with careful attention to detail so your knit feels like a true heirloom from the Highlands.”

How do you source your yarns?

“Wherever possible, I source yarns from Scottish and British mills, small producers and independent dyers. I also make use of scraps, leftovers, deadstock and re-sale yarns so that your pieces are as low-waste and sustainable as possible, without compromising on warmth or softness.”

What if I can't see my size?

“If you can’t see your size, please get in touch. Because every piece is handknitted to order, I can usually adapt the pattern to fit your measurements as closely as possible.”

Who designs the knits?

“Golden Slumber Knits currently works with designs from a select number of published knitwear designers. Credit for each design is clearly given on the product page. All patterns are properly purchased and are not used for re-sale of the pattern itself or for mass production.”

How do I order a made-to-measure sweater?

"We love working on bespoke requests. Ordering a made-to-measure sweater is a simple and enjoyable process. Just get in touch with Fiona and she’ll help you choose your preferred style, colour and yarn. You then send in your measurements, and we’ll keep you updated as your bespoke garment is knitted just for you.”
